Self Aligning ball Bearings
Self-aligning ball bearings are generally used for applications
where misalignment can arise due to errors in shaft deflection or mounting.
The steel balls, cage, and inner ring are made to rotate freely at a certain
angle. As a result, the misalignment of the bearing shaft due to the installation
and machining of the shaft and the housing are automatically adjusted. The
self-aligning ball bearing has two rows of balls, as well as a common concave
sphered raceway in the outer ring. The center curvature meets that of the
bearing itself, allowing the inner ring, balls and cage to continue to rotate.
The self-aligning ball bearing with a tapered bore can easily be
fit to the shaft with an adapter assembly. Self-aligning ball bearings also
tend to run cooler even at high speeds.
